Hexicon governs a Character's non-combat actions via a flexible and straight-forward Skill system. Characters in Hexicon each receive the same ten basic skills (Climbing, Balance, Jump etc) and then receive further Skills from their parents' Occupation, their own Occupation (or apprenticeship) and also via expenditure of Experience Points during play. These Character Skills are drawn from a pool of over 70 Skills provided in the Rules Manual, each complete with a full description and a breakdown of how the Skill may be used. A Character's ability with a given Skill is initially determined by their Statistics which influence different Skills in different ways. For example the Stealth Skill is modified by Agility, Will and Size while the Physician Skill is modified by the Intelligence and Dexterity Statistics. Secondly a Character can improve their ability with a given Skill through the expenditure of Experience Points (EPs) which are commonly awarded to players at the end of a gaming session. The total of the Skill's 'Stat' modifier and the EP modifier is known as the Skill Plus. When a Character wishes to perform an action which is governed by a particular Skill the player will roll a d100, add the Skill Plus and compare the total against a target number determined by the Games Master. Each Skill comes complete with a comprehensive list of example target numbers for various activities related to that Skill. For example, the table below is the set of examples provided for the Acting Skill:
