Character’s in Hexicon can only carry a certain amount of kit (measured in pounds and derived from Strength and other Stats) before they are affected by the weight of their equipment. For every pound of weight above their ‘Encumbrance Skill’ they suffer a -1 to certain actions (Jumping, Dodging etc).
The Encumbrance value however, goes on to affect other, very important Character attributes such as Attack / Action Time and Pace.
This means that when playing to the full extent of the rules every time a Character changes his or her hat there is a possibility that other values need to alter as well.
This can be cumbersome (no pun intended) to the new and uninitiated player so here are some guidelines / suggestions to help out with this rule.
For reference, the values that are affected by Encumbrance are:
a) Double Encumbrance
b) Pace
c) Attack Time
d) Exhaustion Modifiers (optional, advanced rules)
e) Strike Level*
* This is technically a Skill and doesn’t need to be altered unless you particularly want to use the box on the front of the Character Sheet.
One time saving approach would be not to worry about it during play. A GM could make sure Players sort out these values at the beginning or end of a session (unless they dramatically change weights such as swapping silk pyjamas for full-plate armour). Perhaps have Players alter values if weight carried changes by more than five or ten pounds but not for values smaller than that.
I’ll also post a spreadsheet on the site soon which will help out with this stuff for GMs who use a laptop / PC during play. It will allow a GM to enter a Character’s new Weight Carried value and then calculate the other values to save a Player doing it.

I have now posted the promised spreadsheet onto the resources page of the website (www.hexicon.co.uk/support.htm).
